FAQ

What do you mean by “co-operative” child care?
A co-operative venture is one that is “operated by and for the benefit of those using its services.”  Essentially, the family of every child enrolled at Le Jardin also works at Le Jardin, volunteering one day a week as well as assisting in the behind-the-scenes operations of the centre. We have based Le Jardin on a successful co-operative venture in Toronto, the Kinder Garden.

What are the benefits of the co-operative model?

  • Cost-effective child care: approximately $36/day for a full-time place (Fees will vary month-to-month based on needs and expenditures)
  • An experienced Early Child Educator to provide stimulating programming and continuity of care.
  • A 3:1 child-to-adult ratio ensuring lots of individual attention for your child.
  • An opportunity to be deeply involved in your child’s day-to-day learning and development.
  • A chance to meet like-minded parents and really get to know your child’s caregiver and friends.
  • The ability to oversee and affect the operation of your child’s daycare and make real and positive changes through your involvement.

How many children attend Le Jardin?
We offer both full- and part-time placement, with a maximum of six children present on any day.

Why don’t you include more information on your site about your location, policies, etc.?

Our primary concern is the well-being of our children — for safety and privacy reasons, we keep the details regarding the daycare to a minimum online. Families with a sincere interest in learning more about the daycare can receive information by request: info [at] lejardincoop.ca

How can our family join Le Jardin?
The enrollment process is as follows:
1) Submit your name and contact information by  e-mailing us at: info [at] lejardincoop.ca. Please indicate whether you would like to view the handbook, the age of your child, and the time you are hoping to begin care with Le Jardin.

2) We will send you the Le Jardin Handbook, which outlines our principles and policies. You can let us know if you have any questions and whether you would like to be placed on a list of interested families.

3)When and if spots become available, you will be contacted to arrange a visit of the daycare. If you are still interested, we will have you complete an application form.

4)The Le Jardin Parents will review the Application and set a time to meet with your family and introduce the children.

4) If all goes well and your Application is accepted, we will require a non-refundable Enrollment Fee of $250 for each child attending the daycare, as well as a “Float Fee” of $100 which will be refunded to you upon your withdrawal from Le Jardin. We also require that all adult volunteers undergo a police records check and become certified in Infant First Aid and CPR. We can point you in the right direction for both!
